The Toyota Hilux double cab gives you the best of both worlds: a proper cabin with seats for five and an open load bed behind. It is the go-to vehicle for diaspora clients managing building projects, event teams hauling equipment and anyone who needs to carry people and things in one trip.

People in front, cargo behind

The Hilux has a reputation in Kenya, and around the world, for being very hard to break. The double cab adds a full back row of seats, so a site team, a family or a small crew can travel in comfort while the load bed takes tools, materials, luggage or event equipment. It is a practical, no-nonsense choice that still looks smart.

Who hires the Hilux double cab?

  • Diaspora clients checking on building projects back home, visiting sites, suppliers and hardware stores.
  • Event organisers carrying tents, chairs, sound systems or decorations along with their team.
  • Families moving between homes, or collecting furniture and supplies for a celebration.
  • Companies and non-profits that need a pickup for field staff on tarmac routes.
  • Anyone who needs to carry things that won't fit in a car boot.

Project visits back home

Managing a build from abroad is hard. When you are home, you want to see the progress for yourself, meet the contractor and pick up what is needed. A Hilux double cab lets you do all of that in one vehicle, with room to bring the foreman or family along. Tell us your destination when you book. If your site is on a dirt road, tell us before you book: our cars can't be driven on unpaved roads, so we'll help you plan around it.

Loading and security

Load the bed carefully, secure everything before you set off, and don't overload the vehicle. Items in an open load bed are exposed to the weather and to theft, so keep valuables in the cabin and don't leave the bed loaded when you park in town.

Self-drive or with a driver

Drive it yourself, or add one of our vetted chauffeurs. To drive yourself you need to be 25 or over with a valid licence. Extra drivers are welcome once we add them to the rental agreement.

Airport pickups

Arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with lots of luggage or boxes for the family? Share your flight number and we track your flight, so the Hilux is waiting in the arrivals area and the bags go straight in the back.

Handover you can trust

At handover we walk round the vehicle with you, show you the spare wheel and jack, and film a video walkthrough of the inside and outside. We encourage you to film your own too, so everything can be checked when you return it.

See how to book. Only need to carry goods, with one or two people? The Toyota Hilux single cab has a longer load bed.

What the Toyota Hilux Double Cab costs for a real trip

All in, self-drive: the daily rate, delivery and collection in Nairobi (JKIA included), the cleaning and service fee, and VAT at 16%. Fuel is extra, and you return the car with the same fuel level.

Toyota Hilux Double Cab hire: questions

How many seats does the Hilux double cab have?

Five, in two rows, with an open load bed behind the cabin.

Can I take the Hilux to a building site upcountry?

On paved roads, yes. Tell us your destination when you book. It stays in Kenya and on paved roads, and it can't be taken on safari game drives: the only car in our fleet allowed on game drives is our Land Cruiser Safari. If the site is on a dirt road, tell us before you book, as our cars can't be driven on unpaved roads.

Can I book the Toyota Hilux Double Cab from abroad?

Yes. Most of our clients book from the USA, UK, Europe and the UAE, and your car is confirmed before you fly. Pay a refundable reservation deposit within 2 hours of booking (we send a card payment link, or M-Pesa details by WhatsApp, phone or email), then the balance when you see the car, by M-Pesa, bank transfer, credit card or cash. Free cancellation until the car is handed over.

Can you deliver the Toyota Hilux Double Cab to JKIA?

Yes. Share your flight details and we track your flight. The evening before you land we send your driver's name and number, and the driver greets you in arrivals with a sign bearing your name and the car. We also deliver to hotels and homes in Westlands, Kilimani, Karen and across Nairobi. Delivery and collection cost KES 1,000 each way.

Deposit: when your money comes back

You see the exact security deposit for your car in your quote before you book, and again on your booking page. It is fully refundable and due with your remaining balance by handover. It is not an extra charge: it is returned when the car is returned. Your security deposit is refunded immediately after the return handover inspection. It comes back the same way you paid it: by M-Pesa to the number it came from, to the bank account you paid from, back to your card, or in cash. We check the car together and film it, just as we did at handover, and you get a written return receipt. If nothing is owed, you get it all back.

Only these can be taken off:

  • fuel below the level you received, at the pump price
  • traffic and speed camera fines, parking and tolls, at cost
  • a late return, after the 1-hour grace period
  • new damage shown on the handover and return videos, up to your Excess Fee for Damage

Anything taken off is on a written list, with the video or a receipt to show it, and there are no admin or processing fees.

Booking with a chauffeur? With one of our chauffeurs driving there is no security deposit and no Excess Fee for Damage. Read our fair damage promise, the rental terms in plain words, every car's price and deposit, and how JKIA airport handover works.
