The Toyota Harrier balances sophistication with economy. It is a luxury crossover that looks as good at Village Market as it does on a weekend drive to Naivasha, with the reliability that makes Toyota the name most Kenyans trust.

Who the Harrier suits

  • Business travellers who want comfort and presence without the size or fuel bill of a Land Cruiser.
  • Couples and young families on a city break or a weekend away.
  • Diaspora visitors who want a reliable, familiar Toyota for two or three weeks at home.
  • Older passengers: the Harrier's seat height makes getting in and out easy, with no climb as in a big 4x4.

If you need seven seats, look at the Mazda CX-8. If you need four-wheel drive for the rains, the Toyota Prado is the step up.

Seats and luggage

The Harrier seats five, and the boot takes two large suitcases and a couple of carry-ons from the airport. That covers a couple with luggage for a long stay, or a family of four packing light. Bringing gifts for the family as well? Tell us how many bags are coming, and we will tell you whether it fits or suggest a bigger car.

Handed over at JKIA

Add your flight number when you book and we track your flight. The evening before you land we send your driver's name and number on WhatsApp, and your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with a sign bearing your name. We film a walk-round video together and show you the fuel level, spare wheel and jack before you set off. Delivery to JKIA is KES 1,000. Read our airport promise.

The modern professional's SUV

A stylish design and a quiet cabin with soft-touch materials make every drive feel premium. The Harrier rides softly over Nairobi's speed bumps and rough patches, and it looks the part outside Village Market, Two Rivers or an embassy gate in Gigiri.

Easy in the city, easy on fuel

Large enough for comfort, compact enough for Nairobi's tight parking, and lighter on fuel than a big 4x4. Fuel is extra, and you return the car with the same level you collected it with.

Toyota reliability

The Harrier is one of the most dependable SUVs on Kenyan roads, and mechanics who know it are never far away. If anything does go wrong, call our 24/7 line and we arrange a replacement car.

Weekends away

Naivasha, Nanyuki and the tea country around Limuru are an easy drive. It stays on paved roads in Kenya; tell us your route when you book and we confirm it.

With a chauffeur

Add a chauffeur for KES 4,000 a day in Nairobi or KES 5,000 a day outside, plus your driver's food and overnight accommodation away from Nairobi. With our chauffeur driving there is no security deposit.

Toyota Harrier hire: questions

How much is Toyota Harrier hire in Nairobi?

The daily self-drive rate is at the top of this page, before 16% VAT, and the table above works out 3, 7 and 14 days all in.

How many people and bags fit in the Toyota Harrier?

Five people, and two large suitcases plus a couple of carry-ons. For more, look at the seven-seat Mazda CX-8 or the Toyota Prado.

Should I choose the Harrier or the Mazda CX-5?

Both are premium five-seat SUVs at similar rates. The Harrier has the softer, quieter ride; the CX-5 feels sportier to drive.

Is the Harrier good for trips upcountry?

Yes, on paved roads: it is comfortable on the highway and economical. Tell us your route when you book. It stays in Kenya and on paved roads, and it can't be taken on safari game drives: the only car in our fleet allowed on game drives is our Land Cruiser Safari.

Is the Harrier easy for elderly parents?

Yes. Its seat height means no climb up, as in a big 4x4, and no crouch down, as in a low saloon.

Can I hire the Harrier with a driver?

Yes: KES 4,000 a day within Nairobi or KES 5,000 a day outside, plus your driver's food and overnight accommodation away from Nairobi.

Deposit: when your money comes back

You see the exact security deposit for your car in your quote before you book, and again on your booking page. It is fully refundable and due with your remaining balance by handover. It is not an extra charge: it is returned when the car is returned. Your security deposit is refunded immediately after the return handover inspection. It comes back the same way you paid it: by M-Pesa to the number it came from, to the bank account you paid from, back to your card, or in cash. We check the car together and film it, just as we did at handover, and you get a written return receipt. If nothing is owed, you get it all back.

Only these can be taken off:

  • fuel below the level you received, at the pump price
  • traffic and speed camera fines, parking and tolls, at cost
  • a late return, after the 1-hour grace period
  • new damage shown on the handover and return videos, up to your Excess Fee for Damage

Anything taken off is on a written list, with the video or a receipt to show it, and there are no admin or processing fees.

Booking with a chauffeur? With one of our chauffeurs driving there is no security deposit and no Excess Fee for Damage. Read our fair damage promise, the rental terms in plain words, every car's price and deposit, and how JKIA airport handover works.
